Project
THE PROBLEM
The women who had taken R2T’s handcraft classes were not able to start their own businesses individually because they lacked the business training, capital, and time needed to create enough products.
OUR SOLUTION
Collectively, women handcrafters can pool their resources and talents to form cooperative business. We provide:
•Business education and knowledge through mentorship-based training workshops
• Assistance finding retail partnerships and markets
• Craft-making materials and supplies
• A safe, clean and accessible workspace
OUR IMPACT Since 2014, under R2T guidance, Kustawi:
• Created 1,032 hand-made crafts
• Sold over $8,000 worth of products in the US
• Learned business skills including accounting and marketing
• Products available in Nairobi at Spinners Web, Kuona Trust, and the International School of Kenya
• Earned income that allows the women to keep their children in school and provide basic needs
