Our Empowerment Program consists of free classes, seminars and workshops designed to develop a sense of personal self-worth and the skills necessary for participants to secure employment and a sustainable income thereby allowing them to achieve desired levels of living. The Program provides an opportunity for continuous learning through regular assessments, coaching and mentoring as necessary.
Our 2014 Empowerment Program consists of the following six classes:
The first step in the Empowerment Program, Personal Empowerment helps students embrace their own self-worth and teaches positive thinking techniques, visualization, goal setting, and action steps. After the students complete Personal Empowerment they are prepared to learn new skills which will help them achieve their goals.
Many residents of Dagoretti speak little to no English. For some students, R2T's English class is the key to getting their first job and enhancing their employability. Additionally, learning English allows parents and caretakers to better connect with their children who are taught English in school.
Enhancing their English skills allows residents access to increased opportunities for employment and career growth. In Nairobi, where the presence of international business is growing, English skills are a necessity. The class also helps better prepare those interested in participating in the Business Entrepreneurship Program.
Income-Generating Handcrafts (2 classes)
These classes teach income-generating craft making skills. Students make handcrafts using recycled, readily available materials, which are provided to them at no cost while they are enrolled in the class. Students have the opportunity to sell back their products at the end of the class, additionally providing them with an income.
Introduction to Business Workshops
Our business training workshops help those who successfully finished the Personal Empowerment and income-generating classes to utilize their new skills and build business knowledge. These workshops prepare students for the Business Entrepreneurship Program.
